Fence Post Calculator
Calculate the number of fence posts needed.
How It Works
Posts = ceil(Length ÷ Spacing) + 1 + Number of gates.
Example
A 100 ft fence at 8 ft spacing with 2 gates: 14 + 2 = 16 posts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does each gate add a post?
A gate needs its own hinge and latch posts, even when it lines up with the regular spacing.
What size posts should I use?
4×4 posts suit most residential fences; 6×6 for tall or wind-loaded fences and gates.
How deep should posts be set?
About one-third of the post height, typically 24–30 in for a 6 ft fence.
