What Is a Square Footage Calculator?
The square footage calculator finds the area of a room, building, or any rectangle in square feet. It also converts to square yards and lets you enter a price per square foot for a quick cost estimate. Real estate listings, flooring orders, and paint jobs all start with this number.
How It Works
Square footage = Length × Width.
Example
A 25 ft × 40 ft room is 1,000 sq ft.
How to Calculate
- Measure the longest length and width of the space in feet.
- Multiply them together. A room that measures 25 ft by 40 ft is 1,000 sq ft.
- For L shaped rooms, split the space into rectangles, calculate each one, and add the totals.
- Note the square yard figure, which divides square feet by 9, for carpet or fabric sold by the yard.
- Optionally enter a price per square foot to get a ballpark material cost for the whole area.
